Make your own word guess puzzle

Pick a secret word, add an optional title and hint, and get a link. Whoever opens it plays a Wordle-style guessing game with your word: letters turn teal in the right spot and amber when they're in the word somewhere else. Great for classrooms, birthdays and group chats.

How it works

  1. Type a secret word of 3 to 8 letters. Letters only: no spaces, numbers or accents.
  2. Add a title (such as "Ms Lee's spelling words") and a hint if you like. Both are shown to the player.
  3. Press Make the link, then copy it into a chat, email or your class page.
  4. Players get 6 tries for words up to 5 letters and 7 tries for longer words. Guesses must be real words from our ENABLE dictionary unless you tick Accept any guess; your secret word is always accepted.

Is the answer hidden?

The word is packed into the link in an encoded form, so it isn't readable at a glance. It isn't encrypted, though: someone determined could decode it. For a friendly game or a class warm-up that's fine; don't use it for anything that needs to stay secret.

Nothing is stored on our server. The puzzle lives entirely in the link, so it keeps working as long as you have the link.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the real Wordle?

No. It uses our own word-guessing game, inspired by classic guessing games like Mastermind and Lingo. It is not affiliated with The New York Times.

Can I use a name or a word that is not in the dictionary?

Yes. Your secret word is always accepted as the answer. Tick Accept any guess so players can also try other words that are not in our dictionary.

How long can the secret word be?

From 3 to 8 letters.

Does it cost anything?

No. Make and share as many puzzles as you like, with no account.
