Spanish word unscrambler

Type your letters, including Ñ, and press Unscramble to see every Spanish word they make, longest first. Accents are not needed: CANCION finds canción. Use ? for a blank or unknown letter. Escribe tus letras y verás todas las palabras en español que puedes formar.

No accents needed: type CANCION for CANCIÓN. Ñ counts as its own letter; on a keyboard without it, type ~n.

Worked example

The form starts with AMIGOS: the 6 letters A, M, I, G, O, S, each used once. The unscrambler keeps every Spanish word that needs no letter you don't have and no letter more often than you have it. That gives 70 words:

The 6-letter row holds the full anagrams, the words that use every letter. Shorter rows are the words hidden inside your letters; add a ? to see what one extra letter would open up.

How the Spanish word unscrambler works

Typing your letters

Type up to 12 letters from a Spanish Scrabble rack, a jumble or a classroom puzzle and press Unscramble. Results are grouped by length, longest first, so full-length anagrams are at the top. Use ? for a blank tile (comodín) or a letter you don't know; each ? can stand for any one letter.

Accents and Ñ

Spanish word games ignore accent marks, and so does this tool. You can type canción or CANCION; both search for the same letters, and results are shown without accents, so CANCION is the word canción. Ñ is different: it is its own letter in Spanish, so NIÑO and NINO are not the same word, and a rack with N cannot make a word that needs Ñ. If your keyboard has no Ñ key, type ~n and it is read as Ñ.

CH, LL and RR

In the Spanish edition of Scrabble, CH, LL and RR are printed on single tiles. Most apps and online word games treat them as two ordinary letters, and that is how this unscrambler counts them: to make CALLE you need two L's. If you are playing with a physical Spanish Scrabble set, a CH tile is one tile but counts as two letters here, so type both.

The word list

Our Spanish list has 635,090 words of 2 to 15 letters, from the open Letterpress word list (public domain, CC0; see our methodology). It includes plurals and every verb form, which is why it is much larger than a printed dictionary and why you will see conjugations like COMIMOS or AMABAS alongside base words. When you search, your browser downloads only the word lengths it needs, then keeps each word whose letters are all in your set, counting repeats. This list is not the official word list of any tournament, so check a word against a dictionary such as the RAE's before relying on it in a competition.

Tips for Spanish word games

Verb endings do most of the work. Infinitives in -AR, -ER and -IR and endings like -ANDO, -IENDO, -ADOS and -ABAN turn a handful of letters into long words. Plurals in -S and -ES are almost always available, so an S is worth saving. Spanish words are vowel-rich: a rack with one vowel is hard to play, and a rack full of A, E and O is easier than it looks. If you are stuck, try each vowel in turn with a ? to see which one unlocks the most words.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to type accents?

No. Accents are ignored, so CANCION and canción give the same results.

How do I type Ñ without a Spanish keyboard?

Type ~n. It is read as Ñ, which is a separate letter from N.

Does it include verb conjugations and plurals?

Yes. The list includes every verb form and plural, so you will see words like COMIMOS and AMABAS.

Are CH, LL and RR treated as one letter?

No, they count as two letters, as in most digital word games. In a physical Spanish Scrabble set they are single tiles.

Can I unscramble English words too?

Yes, use the English word unscrambler or the anagram solver.
