Octordle solver & hints
Enter each Octordle guess once and it is added to all eight boards. Tap the tiles board by board until the colours match your game. The solver keeps a live list of possible words for every board, marks solved boards, and suggests a next guess that cuts down as many open boards as possible.

Worked example
The solver starts with a sample game of eight hidden words and two guesses, CRANE and SPLIT. The table shows how many words each board had left after each guess.
| Board | CRANE | Left | SPLIT | Left | Still possible |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | crane | 19 | split | 5 | ANGLE, ANKLE, ANOLE |
| 2 | crane | 6 | split | 1 | BEACH |
| 3 | crane | 34 | split | 9 | CHORD, CURRY, CORBY |
| 4 | crane | 872 | split | 49 | LEVEL, MODEL, WHEEL |
| 5 | crane | 71 | split | 10 | LEAVE, BLADE, WHALE |
| 6 | crane | 1,036 | split | 3 | GHOST, BOOST, JOUST |
| 7 | crane | 1,036 | split | 9 | MOIST, TWIST, MIDST |
| 8 | crane | 326 | split | 44 | RUGBY, FORUM, ROUGH |
After CRANE, the eight boards held 3,400 candidate words between them. SPLIT brought that down to 130. Board 2 is already down to one word, so it is a free win on the next turn. Board 4 still has 49 words and needs more probing. The suggested next guesses start with BEACH, DORMY, GOURD, MOODY: words that can finish a board while testing letters the others need.
How the Octordle solver works
Octordle hides eight five-letter words and gives you 13 guesses to find them all. Each guess is played on every open board at once, and each board colours it separately with the usual Wordle colours: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in that board's word but elsewhere, grey for a letter it does not contain.
Entering a game
Add a guess and it goes onto every unsolved board as grey tiles. Then, board by board, tap tiles until they match the game ( → → ). Boards are numbered left to right, top to bottom, the same order the game uses. A board with an all-green row is marked solved and takes no new rows. Eight boards is a lot of tapping, so set one board's colours completely before moving to the next.
Using it as a hint, not a spoiler
You choose how much help you get. Glance only at the count under a board to see how close you are. Open the list when a board is down to a handful of words. Use the suggested guess only when you are stuck. Nothing is shown that your own colours have not already narrowed down, and the solver never looks up the day's answers.
What happens behind the scenes
Each board keeps only the words, out of 8,636 five-letter words in our list, that would have produced exactly the colours you entered for every guess. The check replays the game's scoring, so a second copy of a letter that shows grey is read correctly. Lists run from most to least common word; rare words are faded. The next-guess score adds up across all open boards. Early on it favours letters found in about half of a board's candidates; later it counts how many colour patterns a guess would produce on each board.
Octordle strategy
Thirteen guesses for eight words leaves five turns for exploring. Use the first three on words with fresh, common letters; by then most boards have only a few candidates. Then solve boards in order of how few words they have left. A word that is a possible answer on one board and also tests letters for others is worth more than a perfect probe that cannot win anything. Late in the game, every guess that does not solve a board must be paid back, so stop probing once each open board is down to two or three words.
Octordle also has a Sequence mode, where boards unlock one at a time and you get 15 guesses, and a Rescue mode, where the game picks your opening words and you have fewer turns to finish. The solver works for both: enter the guesses as they appear and set the colours on the boards you can see.
Our word list is the public-domain ENABLE list (172,823 words). It is close to Octordle's own list but not identical, so the odd rare word may appear that the game never uses.
Frequently asked questions
How many guesses do you get in Octordle?
13 guesses for eight words in the daily game. Sequence mode allows 15. In Rescue mode the game chooses your opening words, and you have to recover with fewer turns.
Does it work for Sequence and Rescue modes?
Yes. Both use five-letter words and Wordle colours. In Sequence mode, boards you cannot see yet keep grey tiles, so ignore their lists until the board unlocks and you set its colours. In Rescue mode, add the words the game played for you first.
Why does a board say no word fits?
A tile is set to the wrong colour, often on the board next to the one you meant. Check letters you guessed twice: one copy can be grey while the other is yellow or green.
Is there a version with fewer boards?
Yes: the Quordle solver has four boards and the Dordle solver has two.
